The twelve (12) District Chiefs are representatives of the three (3) Districts, namely, TsiSnaihne, Kanatakon, and Kawehnoke. Each of these three (3) Districts elect four (4) Chiefs, and the Grand Chief is elected by all three Districts.Because of our geographic uniqueness, we have to lobby not just the Federal Government but also two provincial governments. These governments usually state that Akwesasne is a 'jurisdictional nightmare'. Much of the Council's time/focus is spent on jurisdictional issues. Thereafter having the title Sir Karim Hakimi.The celebration of Sir Karim Hakimi's knighthood took place in the evening of June 24th, 2005 at Queen's Park Toronto, Ontario's Parliament Hall. This great honour has been bestowed upon Sir Karim Hakimi for his many generous contributions such as donating hundreds of thousands of pairs of eyeglasses to people in less fortunate countries.
