On a recent overnight visit to Bowen Island we woke up scratching our head wondering where we were going to get our coffee fix with no Starbucks locations on Bowen Island. Thank goodness for The Sung Cafe! No wonder this place was so busy! The service was prompt, friendly and efficient. Not only that but the pastries and the caramel macchiatos that they served up were as good, if not better than Starbucks. Located right on the main drag in Sung Cove they are easy to find and the perfect place to grab some fuel as you browse the shops in the area.

Way back in 1978 Pete was on a business trip in San Francisco when he saw his first coffee roaster. That image of fresh roasted coffee never left his head.It was only a year later when the demand for 'The Bean's' fresh roasted coffee exceeded the small in-store roasters. Pete and Barney decided to roast their beans in a central location – at Cowboy Coffee on the North Shore. They travelled down to Nevada and purchased a used 22 kilo Probat coffee roaster (possibly the best excuse ever for a road trip) and when they returned, they set up shop providing fresh-roasted coffee daily to all their stores. The Cowboy Coffee Roasting Company was formed.

The Snug Cafe is a small rickety old building that is almost as old as Bowen Island itself. The Snug is more than a coffee shop and far greater than a breakfast and lunch cafe. The Snug is an institution, a meeting place, a corner stone of our community. The Hayes Family took over Snug Operations in January of 2007. A family of bakers, chefs and jokers. The Hayes family believe in producing great food using the freshest ingredients possible and using local produce whenever available. So drop on by have a coffee, have a chat.... meet the community.
