Shelby Engineering Ltd. is an Edmonton, Alberta based consulting Engineering firm established in 1982 to provide testing, inspection, and engineering services in the fields of Geotechnical, Environmental, Forensic and Materials Engineering and Materials Testing. Shelby offers engineering and testing services to a wide assortment of projects, such as hospitals, warehouses, schools, high-rise buildings, highways, dams, dykes, retaining structures, treatment plants, railroads, subdivisions, and industrial sites. Shelby has provided consulting services related to environmental matters since 1987, investigating properties for environmental impact relating to (but not limited to) underground and above ground petroleum storage tanks, industrial site usage, commercial undertakings such as dry cleaning establishments and auto-repair centers, railway right-of-ways, winter snow dumps and antiquated construction materials including lead, asbestos, and PCB's.
C-FER, originally the Centre for Frontier Engineering Research, incorporated on November 7, 1983 and opened its doors for business on April 1st, 1984 with a mandate to attack problems related to material, fabrication, design, regulations, transportation and construction of structures required for arctic and offshore development in Canada. Today, C-FER Technologies (1999) Inc. operates as a not-for-profit, wholly-owned subsidiary of Alberta Innovates - Technology Futures, with income earned entirely by performing fee-for-service work, mostly for private industry. Over 60% of this income is now derived from sources outside Canada.
