Saltsprints air roots started in 1985 when owner St.Clair McColl moved to the island to settle down with his wife and raise their three boys. After 18 years of commuting off the island to various flying jobs he decided he wanted to work where he lived. He wanted to give something back to the community.
The electrical and plumbing have been replaced, beams shored up, heritage floor replaced, fresh drywall hung, new windows installed, resulting in a clean, bright, open space with a completely different feel, but respectful of its heritage.

Given the brief extent of its history, the largest of B.C.'s Gulf Islands has worn many monikers. The Cowichan people called it Chu-an, meaning 'facing the sea.' This was anglicized to Tuan.
Salt Spring Island Cheese Company specializes in handmade goat and sheep cheeses. We simply believe that a better kind of food business is one that reflects both good community and good food as the two frequently go together.
Salt is a tasting room specializing in artisanal cheese, small-batch cured meats, and a dynamic array of wines, beers and sherries. Guests assemble a Tasting Plate from our chalkboard's selection of 10 cheeses, 10 meats, and 10 condiments. The wine list is dynamic and constantly evolving. Global in nature, one can always expect a sampling of vinous delights from our own backyard, or your favourite wine regions the world-over. The selections change constantly, making it almost impossible to have the same Salt experience twice.
You have to remember when going here that this is a wine tasting room, not a place to have dinner. The wine list is imaginative and approachable. The service on a good night is excellent, on a bad night is so-so, but the staff have always been very helpful with the wine choices, pairings, and flight recommendations. The food is charcuterie, not full meals. Use this place to meet up for a pre-dinner drink, or to end off the night with some wine appreciation.Read more
