The Village of Arden is a utopian, single-tax community noted for its arts, crafts, and theater. It has a town-meeting form of government. Half the land is forests and greens, which are not taxed. Arden is one of three villages known as The Ardens: Arden, Ardentown, and Ardencroft. Each has a separate government. Dwellings are owned by individuals or non-profits but the land is owned by the Arden Trust. Taxes for the village, local schools, and the county are assessed based on each leasehold's square footage of land.
