Nor’west Sod Ltd. started in 1986 with a 22 horsepower tractor and a borrowed 3-wheel bike. At the time, very little was known about growing sod on peat bog in Newfoundland. Due to the complexity of peat bogs, it required a lot of trial-and-error process to bring them to sufficient production levels. Initially, Nor’west Sod Ltd. had a PTO (Permit to Occupy) on 5 acres in Winterland on the Burin Peninsula. Eventually, a lot of the bugs got ironed out (not all – some are still being worked on), and the company was incorporated in 1993. Nor’west Sod Ltd. is today a sole proprietorship with one stockholder. We have approximately 150 acres of bluegrass sod in production at two locations – Winterland and Morley’s Siding. Our dedicated team includes 8 full-time seasonal employees and 2 to 4 part-time staff members. We can ship sod to anywhere in Newfoundland in a timely manner. Contact us for more information.

When Peter started off on his own it was just the 1 tractor. Nowadays the company operates with a 5 tractor fleet covering the whole of North Devon and the surrounding areas.Clements Hill Farms Ltd is family run business based from Frithelstock which is now employing 6 dedicated full time staff with extra local seasonal workers to assist at the peak periods. Our current fleet includes a combination of John Deere and New Holland tractors, a JD self-propelled forage harvester, telehandler, 360° digger and a vast amount of other well maintained machinery and implements which allows us to cope with the ever increasing variety of work for our customer's requirements.
