The East Winnipeg Sports Association (EWSA) is a non-profit organization formed to address the community's recreational needs. Formed in January 2003, the governing body has remained constant and consists of 15 board members including members from the community at large, representatives of the various local sports leagues and community clubs, two local MLA's and the local city Councillor. The main objective of the EWSA involves the planning, execution, and operation of Buhler Recreation Park . The Park spans over 140 acres of degraded farmland and will rejuvenate what was once a barren landscape into a destination point for the entire population of Winnipeg and surrounding areas. The Park will include 8 softball diamonds, a baseball diamond, 6 soccer fields, a toboggan hill, walking/skiing trails, and full service canteen and exhibition area. Although largely summer-based, the park will be operational year round. The walking paths throughout the park will be exceptional cross-country skiing trails while frozen ponds will become public skating areas for families and friends. The Park will have an impact that will extend far beyond the east Winnipeg community and provide the city of Winnipeg with a positive recreational and nature-based facility.
