Windmill Line is just a few minutes' walk from two of Toronto's most famous landmarks - the Distillery District and St. Lawrence Market. We're equally close to the exciting new waterfront development taking place along Queens Quay East. We are surrounded by shops, restaurants, schools, recreation centres and parks. Yonge Street is less than thirty minutes by foot and transit is very accessible for more ambitious excursions or commuting. Since the co-op was started in the early 1980s, many members have enjoyed the friendliness and security of this neighbourhood, and of Windmill Line itself.
Established in 1981, Fieldstone Co-operative Homes is a member-run, non-profit housing corporation located in the heart of downtown Toronto. To join a committee, or to obtain information about committee mandates and tasks, please contact the Office.
Members of the co-op have all expressed a willingness to be part of a diverse community and to participate in its success. The membership is made up of people from a variety of ethnic, cultural, lifestyle and economic backgrounds. Because there is no landlord, the members run the co-op and make all the major decisions. All members, aged 16 and over, have equal voting rights. At the General Members Meetings, for example, elections may be held for positions on the Board of Directors, or the Annual Operating Budget may be ratified. Members participate in various ways such as volunteering on co-op committees. Others show their commitment to the community by taking part in special projects, supervising children at play, planting beautiful gardens, picking-up litter and by otherwise being good neighbours.
Oak Street Housing Co-op, located in downtown Toronto, has provided quality, secure and affordable housing since 1985. The people who live here, or 'members,' run the co-op. Members have equal voting rights and make all major decisions. All members are expected to participate in the running of the co-op. Co-operative Housing Federation of Toronto and with the Co-Operative Housing Federation of Canada. The Co-op receives money from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to provide rent-geared-to-income assistance to some of its members.
