kids began over 25 years ago as two separate agencies that were developed to address the needs of the communities of York Region. The Markham Neighbourhood Support Centre was developed to respond to the needs of young families with children who sought support and ways to learn about childrearing. Youth Housing Markham provided safe and supportive housing for youth who could no longer live at home. A volunteer committee worked to create two group homes that would support 13 homeless youth. These two agencies eventually amalgamated in 1998 to form Pathways for Children, Youth and Families of York Region Inc. The organization continued to offer programs and supports to both families and their children and to homeless and at-risk youth in York Region for many more years.

Jaffari Community Centre in Thornhill, ON. The vandalism is being investigated by York Regional Police. It was only a week ago that the ISIJ hosted an Interfaith event which welcomed people from all faiths from across York Region. Having this occur following what was truly one of the most heartening and meaningful experiences is completely unacceptable. While appalling, these actions do not represent the attitudes of Canada's multicultural society.
The community of members that make up the ISIJ of Toronto began congregating for major religious occasions in the late 1960's. Today we have grown into a Shia Muslim community whose organization is a source of inspiration to other Muslim communities continent-wide. There are currently almost 2000 voting Members of the ISIJ of Toronto, which when including family members translates to approximately 5000 individuals. The Membership is comprised primarily, but not exclusively, of Shia Muslims of Indian origin from East Africa with a deep and rich history of worship, congregation and community service. Indeed, serving and managing the affairs of a Community of this size requires dedication, organization and a collective desire to 'be your neighbour's keeper.' As a result of this spirit, we have established 5 separate places of worship in Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Brampton, Hamilton and London, Ontario.
If you have moved recently to Richmond Hill, we welcome you to our Parish Community. Please introduce yourself to one of the priests and fill out a registration form available beside the entrances to the church.
