Erickson Credit Union was founded by a handful of people in the spirit of community growth and co-operation. At a cost of $5 per share, 10 local residents purchased one share each and their investments provided the initial assets for a banking institution and Ericksn Credit Union was incorporated September 2, 1952.
By 1964, there were approximately 100 active members and the Credit Union had outgrown the office shared with the Co-op store. The Credit Union office was moved to its own building and full service was provided to the membership. Continued growth of the membership over the next few years necessitated even more office space and better business surroundings for the Erickson Credit Union. In 1968, a new building was constructed to house what was now a recognized community banking service.

The RMBR is encompassed primarily by Treaty 2 and to the west adjoined to Treaty 4. The landscape has been settled and managed by First Nations people since time immemorial. The RMBR is rich in lakes, streams and natural habitat. Development within the Biosphere Reserve has largely been for the growing of grain and forage crops, and for the production of livestock.
The library was established in 1974 with the Official Opening taking place on November 2nd of that same year. It began on the second floor of the old brick school which also housed the museum. It soon became apparent that there was a need for easier access to the library and a new site would fit the bill. In 1983 as a centennial project a new library was built and found a permanent home on Main Street. Through the years there have been many changes, mostly in the field of technology, but the library's basic principle to provide the best service to our community remains the same.
