Alexwe're working on a fun science project at Wintergreen Studios this summer. In the interest of tallying and identifying all the species of plants on our land, we're constructing a herbarium. A herbarium is essentially a library of plants, a vast collection that catalogs the species composition in our surrounding area. When a plant is picked, it needs to be dried out and then mounted on a rigid piece of cardboard for display.Each entry is a single plant along with particular attributes:the plant itself, identified with its family, genus, and speciesthe precise (GPS) location where the plant was founda short description of the habitat where the plant was foundthe name of the person who collected the plant and the name of the identifierthe plant's cataloging numberthe date on which the plant was pickedthe name of the institution where the plant is storedWhen picking a plant, it is important to have all of its parts.

Dragon Boat Club (formerly the Belleville Paddling Club) is one of Belleville's most active sports and recreation clubs. The BDBC is dedicated to fun, fitness and team-building, both on the water and off, offering programs for all ages from 14 years old to seniors. We offer instruction and training in all areas of Dragon Boating for all levels of expertise: from novice to competitive status. Since it's inception, the Belleville Dragon Boat Club has been proud to be a community based and completely volunteer run, non-profit organization. We strive to be good citizens of Belleville and the Quinte region. To that end we run several annual events to help raise money for our community. In addition to supporting the Belleville community we have strong ties to several of our neighbouring dragon boating teams and events. We have worked with the Wellington Lions Club and the Cobourg Dragon Boat Club with their dragon boat festivals. In 1967, Sandy MacLachlan created the Woodworking Museum as a Centennial Project. To house the collection, he dismantled an 1855 log house, originally built by the White family in Lanark County, and moved it to Princess Street in Kingston, Ontario. There it operated as a privately?owned museum for over a decade.In the early eighties, it was bought by the former Pittsburgh Township and once again, the log house was moved to its present location at Grass Creek Park. With the amalgamation of the City of Kingston in 1998, the museum became the responsibility of the Culture and Recreation Division in the Corporation of the City of Kingston.The MacLachlan Woodworking Museum holds the most extensive, nationally significant collection of woodworking tools in Canada.
