They were looking for an option other than institutionalization based on the values of respect, dignity, choices, relationships and valuing. From this humble beginning, Prairie Places Inc. was born. Today, Prairie Places Inc. has grown to support over twenty individuals with intellectual disabilities in various living arrangements throughout the city of Winnipeg. Staff work closely with the Executive Director, Program Coordinator and a Volunteer Board of Directors to encourage a sense of belonging, accomplishment and ownership which results in a feeling of self-worth and acceptance. We support individuals with intellectual disabilities to enable them to live in their own homes within the community. This is achieved by respecting onés individuality and recognizing the interdependence of relationships so that we can all live a valued and dignified life based on personal strengths, needs and choices
