Kristus Darzs Latvian Home is the only facility outside of Latvia where Latvian seniors can live and enjoy surroundings, activities and food that are inspired by their Latvian culture. The concept for a Latvian Home was first considered in the 1960's, but the actual planning and implementation began 7 years prior to its opening. The land for Kristus Darzs Latvian Home was donated by a Latvian couple, and thanks to them, and to the generosity of Latvians residing in Canada, funds were collected that assisted in allowing the dream for a Latvian Home to come to fruition. The Home received its first residents on December 1, 1985.

[Servive]:Maurier Francis says she's experienced so many joyous moments with residents in the 45 years she's been caring for them at Leisureworld Caregiving Centre Scarborough that she 'could write a book.' Then there are the other times, when she's prayed for peace and no pain for residents who are critically ill. 'The work is challenging, but in the long run, you're caring for someone who needs you and who you can help,' says Francis, a personal support worker (PSW) who joined the Scarborough long-term care home when she was quite young.
Cooksville Care Centre recognizes the unique aspects of each resident and is committed to provide care and services that foster a culture of autonomy, diversity, and individual choice. We adhere to and promote the Residents' Bill of Rights under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 which states that the long term care home is primarily the home of its residents and is a place where they may live with dignity and in security, safety and comfort and have their social, spiritual and cultural needs adequately met.
