YWCA Yellowknife offers a 12-bed shelter for women and children fleeing family violence along with a 24-hour crisis line (1-866-223-7775), school-based groups to help children who have witnessed violence (Project Child Recovery), in-home support services for adults with disabilities and mental illness, outreach services to clients with mental health issues (both by referral from the Yellowknife Health and Social Services Authority), safe and affordable emergency and transitional housing for families at Rockhill, leadership development programs for girls (GirlSpace) and fee-for-service after-school care. On Sunday, September 7th Dismas of Vermont was one of three beneficiary organizations participating in the Vermonters for Vermonters fundraising concert, to help raise awareness of opiate and other addictions their impact in our communities, at the Vermont State Fair in Rutland. Other beneficiaries were Project Vision and the Vermont Recovery Network. The concert was organized by Vermont musician Joey Leone and a statewide committee. Governor Shumlin and many others addressed the concert attendees.
