The Sherk family is part of Port Colborne's history and has diversified into several branches and types of mills including saw, cider, threshing, copping and grist, as well as coal and lumber. Ron Sherk, born in 1931, started at the age of 17 in the coal and lumber side of the enterprise. The lumber yard had rail access and would receive shipments from western Canada and at one time even shipped prefab homes and cottages all over Ontario. Ron is still at the helm of this busy enterprise as well as his son, Guy Sherk. With many generations to follow, the Sherk TIMBER MART remains a well established business.
