Meet the owner

Serge Guénette keeps coming back to Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, a movie about an eccentric 243-year-old man and his enchanted toy store. "Yes, this is like my own Christmas playground," says the Noël Éternel founder with a smile. Above him, a conveyor line pinned with Floridus elves hums along as cheerful carols swell from an old Porter music box. "And I'd like to think of it as having a magical energy, where things can almost talk or smile back at you."

What definitely isn't make-believe is Noël Éternel's status as one of Montreal's year-round destinations for all things Christmas, drawing hordes of curious tourists, dedicated collectors and holiday shoppers to its near mythical Old Port location.

"It's almost like a museum here," says Serge, referring to the wide variety of available items. He notes that people taking  a summertime stroll through Old Montreal often see the store's iconic red bags - complete with Santa's face - all over the place.  "That's the magic."
