Baby showers are a great way to celebrate the impending birth of a new baby with the expectant mother. Buying a gift for a baby shower doesn't have to be prohibitively expensive. In fact, there are many great baby shower gift ideas that you can make at home. Check out this list to learn more about how to make some great DIY baby shower gifts.

4 easy DIY baby shower gift ideas

1. Diaper cake

A mother will certainly need one thing in particular once her baby arrives: diapers. A gift of diapers can be both useful and cute when you arrange them to look like a cake. Roll up diapers and tie each roll with a ribbon. Stack several rolls horizontally to create a bottom layer, and tie that entire layer together with a big ribbon. Repeat with two additional layers to create a layered cake look. A diaper cake isn't only a good gift idea; it also makes a great baby shower centrepiece.

2. Cupcake onesies

Another great way to present useful gifts to a new mom is to make a box of cupcake onesies. Purchase four onesies in different colours, two pairs of baby socks, large cupcake foils and a small, cute cake box. Fold the onesie lengthwise and place one sock on top of it. Roll up the onesie, stand it on its side so that the sock peeks out at the top and place it inside the cupcake foil. Repeat three times. Present the new mom with the box of onesie cupcakes at the shower.

3. Feeding basket

Buy a large basket at a home goods store, then fill it completely with baby supplies that can be used for feeding. You can include items like baby bottles, bibs, nursing pillows, bottle cleaning brushes, nursing blankets and even books about nursing.

4. Homemade baby bath balm

Create your own baby bath balm for the new mom. Simply mix 1/2 cup of nonfat dry milk with 1/2 cup dry buttermilk, two tablespoons of cornstarch and a drop of orange oil. Bottle the mix in a tightly sealed Mason jar, and use paint pens to decorate the outside of the jar with the name of the balm and also the name of the baby (if the name has been chosen). You can also decorate the jar with ribbons to make it more festive or make multiple jars so the mom will have an ample supply.
