A poem can be a means of expression and at poème, store owner Erin Odanata Herbert wants to help customers do just that; express themselves.
Erin's appreciation for art is what led her to open her own retail space in August of 2012. She considers herself an artist first and foremost and has a difficult time identifying herself as a business owner.
While studying at Concordia University in Studio Arts and Women Studies, she discovered a deep understanding and appreciation for the way art is communicated in our everyday lives.
"I was really interested in performance art and costume and also space as art, and how art integrates into people’s everyday lives," Erin explains.
The idea of fashion as art eventually became a part of this equation as she became increasingly interested in the small creative moments people have every day.
"When people wake up in the morning and they decide what to wear they're making a creative statement about themselves, about the world and how they see themselves in it."
