He served in a number of non-commissioned rank in the Regiment culminating with his appointment as Regimental Sergeant Major in 1972. In 1975 he was commissioned and served in all Regimental appointments including Battle Captain Recce Squadron, Adjutant, Officer Commanding Recce Sqn, Regimental Operations Officer and Deputy Commanding Officer. In 1992 he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel and assumed command of the Regiment.
