Kalugwis, located on Turnour Island, was their primary winter residence.In the 1960s, the Government closed down the school and monthly hospital ship on Kalugwis. With no prospect of education alternatives to residential school and no access to health care, the community gradually left Kalugwis and dispersed throughout Vancouver Island and southern British Columbia.
