In 1945 W.B. 'Tommy' Humphreys returned to Jackson, MS after four years of serving his country. Tommy arrived home to a new wife and no source of income but had no interest in taking on the family business of farming. Soon after, a local company, JB Stokes, was looking for a worker. They had three eager men show up to claim the job. An ultimatum was handed down; 'All of you will be on the payroll for one week, and the best worker gets the job.' As my Grandmother told me, 'And knowing your grandfather, you know who won the job of course.' Within a few years Tommy became a leader within the company and moved to Mobile, AL to manage a regional branch.
Cartwright is a village in southwestern Manitoba, Canada. Just 13 kilometres east of Cartwright you will find Mather. Both of these communities reside in the Rural Municipality of Roblin. Cartwright and the RM of Roblin are an Age Friendly Community.
