The Westlock Pioneer Museum contains thousands of objects, many of them donated by the descendants of early settlers in the Westlock area, including such smaller surrounding communities as Clyde, Dapp, Linaria, Busby, Pickardville, Pibroch, Jarvie and Flatbush. The museum is run by the Westlock and District Historical Society, which was created in 1962 with the mission of preserving the history of the area and passing it on to future generations. The historical society began collecting artifacts that told the story of the town and the people who helped to develop it. Now the museum contains everything from early pioneer farm equipment and vehicles to wedding dresses and kitchen utensils, all evocative of the lives of the pioneers who built a community in the area. Come visit the museum to learn about our distinct and unique history.
Vermilion, AB was established as a village in 1906, and incorporated as a town later that year. The town got its name from the red clay in the river valley, and means, 'A bright red mercuric sulphide used as a pigment.'
Wainwright is located in East Central Alberta at the intersection of Buffalo Trail-Highway 41 and Poundmaker Trail-Highway 14, near the beautiful Battle River Valley. We have a rich history that is highlighted and preserved throughout the area that focuses on our community's past. Living the good life in Wainwright means local full service health service and educational infrastructure, an atmospheric Mainstreet, advanced recreational amenities and culture celebration in our many annual events.
This museum was much bigger than my family expected! There were interesting topics you do not normally get to explore in a local museum, like bison and the military. We did not know there was a Prisoner of War camp in Wainwright! My daughter studying in the medical field really appreciated the antique hospital equipment.
Overall, the museum was clean, the gift shop had fun Wainwright-themed souvenirs, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We would visit again! Read more
