The Municipality of Chesterfield Inlet is located in Nunavut, just South of the Arctic Circle in Northern Canada. Chester's history dates back to the mid-1800's and was once Hudson's Bay Company's main supply centre for other posts in the area. Igluligaarjuk, 'Place with a few Thule houses'.

Opened in 1992 as a retail and production facility for traditional and Nunavut themed arts and crafts in Rankin Inlet, Ivalu carries a wide variety of products from across Nunavut. Although no longer involved in production, Ivalu continues as a thriving retail outlet and as purchaser and distributor of a wide variety of arts and crafts from artisans across the territory.
