Peak Publishing Ltd. began operation in November 1995, as a paid-subscription publication distributed every Wednesday. A Weekend Shopper is provided to homes from Saltery Bay to Lund, including Texada Island. Within the city of Powell River, The Peak is delivered from house to house by carriers. Its carrier force, including youngsters and adults, numbers more than 100. All homes within the municipality receive the Shopper on Friday. Rural readers receive their Shoppers via conveniently located drop boxes, often next to Canada Post mail boxes. An area breakdown of delivery is provided each week and the numbers are audited by an independent organization.

Savary Island is 5 miles tip tip, at the northern end of Georgia Strait, it lies east west, is about 90 miles north west of Vancouver. Savary is the most subdivided island in The Gulf, in 1910 the majority of the Island was divided in to 50ft wide lots. In the early 70's Savary Shore added another 225 lots. Sunny, situated in the rain shadow of Vancouver Island and with low elevation, Savary gets more sunshine, the tides flushing in from the Pacific around Vancouver Island meet just norh of Savary. When these warmer waters, run over the shallow sandy shelf of Savary, they become some of the warmest in the region. Savary is mostly sand and silt, anchored by Mace Point, a large rock at the East End. The sand means there is little surface water. The temperate climate and lack of surface water, has limited the land mammals, there are deer, squirrels, mice , river otters and the occasional mink come ashore. This makes hiking etc. a little less stressful. ( no bears , cougars, rats, raccoons etc. AND FEW MOSQUITOS ). The are rare plant colonies and the northernmost Garry Oaks. Broom was introduced in the 1930's a mixed blessing, it has controlled erosion in some locations, and is beautiful in bloom, but it is invasive and inflammable. Birds are abundant, resident bald eagles, scavenging turkey vultures, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, and of course shorebirds. There are lots of seals on the reefs, sometimes sea lions. There are resident porpoises in the area and random visits by whales. There is groundwater , a shallow 'perched' aquifer on a silt layer. Shallow dug wells mid island, sandpoint wells at Indian Point and Mlaspina Promenade. And the main aquifer, accessed by drilled wells. Water is good quality and drunk untreated. Savary Shores has a community well currently serving about 120 lots.

The oceanfront, 1905 Historic Lund Hotel is located at the tip of BC's beautiful Sunshine Coast, at the Gateway to the renowned Desolation Sound near Powell River. Since built by the Swedish Thulin brothers who founded Lund, the hotel has served as the heart of this quaint village. After falling into disrepair in the latter 1900's, the hotel was purchased by it's current owners in 1999 and has undergone an ongoing series of renovations. The area that is now Lund has been known to the Coast Salish peoples for thousands of years was a village site of the Sliammon people. The village of Klah ah men was home to dozens of families and a desirable location as it was accessible by land and sea so approaching visitors could be detected from afar. Further, both I hohs (Savary Island) and Tohk natch (Okeover Inlet), plentiful in shellfish, salmon and land mammals, were only short paddles away. Fresh water was ample as were Cedar trees, the main material source in the production of tools, shelter, clothing and more. Ceremonies, both spiritual and social in nature, were held at Klah ah men, and included dance, song, and recreational games that were a major part of Coast Salish culture. On July 2, 1792 two surveying crews from Captain George Vancouver's ships 'Chatham' and 'Discovery' came in contact with the Sliammon Nation for the first time. By 1876 the Canadian government had instituted the Federal Indian Act, which established a system of reservations to which Coast Salish peoples were relocated. Into the 1900's these lands were surveyed and sold, while aboriginal peoples, who were not entitled to purchase their traditional lands or enjoy the free land grants offered by the Government to immigrating settlers, were relocated to reservations. In 1889, Fred and Charlie Thulin arrived from Sweden, looking for a better life in the new land of opportunity. The brothers first set eyes upon the area that would later become Lund while sailing by on the side-wheeler tugboat Mermaid on their way to find employment logging in Pendrell Sound.
