I maintain a small private practice in addition to working for a local school district. Mindful speech pathology is just that, mindful. We have to be present and connected to ourselves in order to be able to learn new things and connect them with past experiences. Mindfulness is connecting ourselves in the present moment to what we see, hear, and feel, and smell. Being a mindful speech pathologist means being flexible, listening to the client and maintaining a connection. Mindfulness is an important aspect of speech and language therapy especially in children with autism, ADHD, anxiety, and other learning disabilities.
