Emerald Ash Borer in GeorginaThe Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a highly invasive insect that attacks, feeds on, and kills all species of healthy ash trees. EAB was first sighted in York Region in 2008, and is now found throughout the Region and much of southern Ontario. Over the next three to five years the Towns Parks & Facilities Division will be removing infested trees. Additional trees of a different species will be planted throughout Georgina, under the Georgina Tree Planting Program, during usual planting seasons in the fall and spring. The Town of Georgina's award winning soccer facilities are being further improved with two additional regulation size soccer fields, one is a fully illuminated and artificially surfaced sports field which will extend the soccer season by 2-3 months for outdoor field sports such as soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, etc.
