It is with great pride and pleasure that we announce the induction of Mr. K. Hakim to knight of The Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta. Thereafter having the title Sir Karim Hakimi.The celebration of Sir Karim Hakimi's knighthood took place in the evening of June 24th, 2005 at Queen's Park Toronto, Ontario's Parliament Hall. This great honour has been bestowed upon Sir Karim Hakimi for his many generous contributions such as donating hundreds of thousands of pairs of eyeglasses to people in less fortunate countries. And most recently, participating in Ride for Sight in support of The Foundation Fighting Blindness.When a man as busy as Sir Hakimi makes time to help in humanitarian efforts, it is worthy of our admiration and congratulations to Sir Hakimi for doing a wonderful job.Hakim Optical began more than 40 years ago with Mr. Hakim grinding lenses for the Canadian wholesale market. His craft was learned, as a youth, in his native Iran and honed, in subsequent years, grinding lenses in Germany and then camera lenses in Switzerland.Attracted by the excitement of retail opportunities, Mr. Hakim began to pass the great deals he gave to wholesalers on to the public.Today Hakim Optical serves the public with 157 outlets (including 137 one hour factory outlets) in Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Manitoba.
