Thank goodness some people with foresight and vision saw the opportunity that presented itself when the Shaughnessy Golf course closed in the 60s. Saving a good chunk of the land from developers, the Vancouver Foundation, the Province and the City of Vancouver worked to establish this gem on part of the land once occupied by the golf course. The results are now here for all to see with charming little paths winding among the impressive variety of plants, shrubs, bushes and trees that are all carefully labeled throughout the grounds. There's even a fun and challenging hedge maze! The restaurant is a lovely place to go for a meal and the gardens seem an ideal spot to hold a wedding with great places for photo ops throughout the gardens. And Van Dusen continues to improve with a new visitor centre being built for 2011. The other thing that must be mentioned as a must see is the light show they put on every Christmas. Huge swaths of the gardens are lit up with thousands if not millions of lights. This is all complemented by a musically choreographed light show that happens regularly on the main pond. WIth snack booths offering hot chocolate and other goodies it is a great way to indulge in Christmas Spirit. Visit Van Dusen Gardens and enjoy a little tranquility in the middle of the city!

Hands down great food eats here but long waits and your entire party needs to be present or they will not seat you, fair enough. I have been a few times now and all the food is very good and you have to start with one of their wonderful waffles and share your topping with the rest of your table to enjoy the different flavours. Worth waiting in line for.

On Saturday June 21st, we held a private concert in the shop at Le Marché. Flights of Fancy, a night of 17th century Italian music, featured performances by Paul Luchkow (violin) and Michael Jarvis (harpsichord) . When I arrived, I walked into Marché in a state of dishevelled beauty. The cafe was still taking orders as Janaki, Pascal and crew made preparations for another one of our lovely collaborations.

The Rickshaw Theatre, formerly known as the Shaw Theatre, was built in 1971 as part of the Shaw Brothers' (Sir Run Run Shaw and Tan Sri Runme Shaw) worldwide movie empire. The Shaw Brothers are the most significant film production company in the history of Hong Kong cinema. Over the past nine decades, the Shaws have amassed a collection of over 800 titles. By the early sixties, the Shaw empire had incorporated 35 companies, owned 130 cinemas, 9 amusement parks and 3 production studios.
The garden design features displays of plants in picturesque landscape settings. Specific garden areas are planted to illustrate botanical relationships, such as the Rhododendron Walk, or geographical origins, as in Sino-Himalayan Garden. VanDusen Botanical Garden provides an inspiring and enjoyable environment for visitors of all ages and interests. COAST's entry welcomes guests through a street-side lounge bordered by fire pits. Doubling the former restaurant's capacity, the top level seats 120 and the main level seats 125, including a dramatic 20-foot circular 'Oyster & Chowder Bar'. Beyond, guests will be drawn to a warm and intimate mezzanine featuring a signature 'Boardroom Table' and a private dining space.
