SterlingSterling Borden is a Registered Professional Counsellor Candidate, RPCc, and a member in good standing with the CPCA (Canadian Professional Counsellors Association). He received his formal training from the Vancouver College of Counsellor Training; however, he believes his experiential training started many years prior. His journey prior to fully embracing the function as a helper has both negative and positive highlights similar to everyone's experience. In his early twenties after a period of struggling, Sterling became passionate about personal development. He was drawn to exploring what inspires people as well as what is involved in transcending the pain that resides in most of us.After realizing that many of us have experienced some type of hurt or loss, Sterling recognized that when given the opportunity to address our pain and work through it, a part of us that was once lost comes back to life allowing a richer and fuller life.'I knew from that point on it was going to be a personal mission to make those opportunities of growth more accessible for myself and others.

People sometimes engage in self-destructive behaviour, rejecting any assistance others may offer. Intervention, when done correctly, is extremely effective in helping these people accept help.
Long used for substance abuse (alcohol abuse, drug abuse) and addiction (alcoholism, drug addiction), intervention is now also used for compulsive behaviours including gambling, sex addiction, computer addiction, and eating disorders.

Educating ourselves about the Aging ProcessWritten by Shelley Brierley Saturday, 15 July 2000Where are you in the Aging Process? We are all aging. The only real question is what stage are you currently experiencing? There are five components to consider in the aging process; chronological age, physical makeup or wellness, basic personality, spiritual health and cultural influence.Generally, in this culture, aging refers to people in their elder years, as if they are the only ones aging. What is being referred to as the aging process is the normative developmental changes over a life span. In childhood, we learn the security of dependence and socialization. During youth, we experience an introspective, egocentric time and develop our sense of identity through relationships, skills, knowledge, physicality and independence. Young Adulthood is where we cement our identity, develop beliefs, friends, families and/or career. Adulthood is the 'sandwich generation' for many North Americans raising children and supporting the elderly while often handling careers
