We are a not-for-profit, federally incorporated educational institution of professional musicians and volunteers that serves its clients through programs of study, training, examination, recognition and performance. Conservatory Canada's roots go back to 1891, when the London Conservatory was first founded. In 1910, the London Conservatory became affiliated with The University of Western Ontario and it became an examining Board. In 1915 that affiliation was dissolved, and in 1919 the Institute of Music Arts was founded (as a teaching institution). In 1922, the London Conservatory and Institute of Musical Arts amalgamated and existed until 1934, when they were incorporated under the name Western Ontario Conservatory of Music. The reach became truly national in 1997 through a merger with The Western Board of Music (established in 1934, serving all of western Canada, and based in Edmonton, Alberta).
The Academy of Music has been providing music lessons to London and area residents for over 40 years. Whatever your age, you can enjoy a private lesson in a professional studio atmosphere. Programs are designed to fulfill the needs of the individual. Competent and caring instructors will offer everything from Royal Conservatory of Music exam preparation to programs that will inspire any hobbyist. Need help with an upcoming audition or performance? Our dedicated staff will help you build the confidence you need to succeed.
Born and raised in Sarnia, Ontario, Gary McCracken started playing drums before he was a teenager and took up guitar not long after. After drumming for Max Webster and several other bands, Gary settled down in Sarnia in the early 80s to teach music and make experimental recordings such as the instrumental, solo project Audioscapes. Now, Gary is still teaching private drum, guitar, and bass lessons.
