The Powerhouse at Stave Falls has a way of engaging a wide variety of visitors, from individuals to families and school groups. With an amazing Tesla coil electricity demonstration and many interactive and historic displays, guests can take a walk back through time to see how power has helped build our province. This 100-year-old power generating facility is also a National Historic Site of Canada where guests can comb through archival photos, artifacts and explore the original mechanical and electrical components installed over a century ago. Because of its unique historic features, many television shows and movies have been filmed on-site. You'll be walking through a real life movie set.

Kinghaven Treatment Centre was established in 1971 and continues to serve an adult male clientele suffering with addiction and/or mental health challenges. To date the centre has served in excess of 22,000 men. images/pic_au_peardonvile_big.jpgimages/pic_au_peardonvile_big.jpgOur Sister program, Peardonville House Treatment Centre was established in 1987 to serve the needs of adult women with similar addiction and/or mental health concerns, and their under school age children. The children, while not in treatment, are cared for in a fully-licensed childcare centre at the facility. This program has served in excess of 2,500 women and children. In 2006, Valley House, a 6 bed residential program for the most chronically addicted was opened on the Kinghaven campus and Mollie's Place, a similar 6-bed facility for women, opened on the Peardonville House site in 2008.

We are first and foremost a display and hybridizing garden, with our hybridizing efforts taking a lot of our time (next to weeding of course!). We have been honored over the years with several awards, starting with the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board’s award for Best Large Garden in the early 90s. We became the first national display garden recognized for daylilies in Canada by the American Hemerocallis Society, started the first Canadian daylily club in 1991 and I became the first certified Canadian judge for daylilies by the AHS. To date, we have over 60 hybrids of our own creation - plants borne right here in Langley that are now making their way around the world. GEWC bid a fond farewell to Pauline Jarrett who has been our bookkeeper since July 2008. Pauline presented a Letter of Resignation in December. To express their appreciation the Board of Directors extended Pauline a Christmas 2010 Bonus. Also on behalf of the Board of Directors, she was presented with a small token of appreciation at the last Wednesday Night league gathering, and received warm applause from our members. Pauline remains a member of the Wednesday Ladies league.Marlies Guenther has accepted the position of Bookkeeper starting January 5th. Please welcome her to the GEWC team!Marlies Guenther, I was born in Vancouver and have lived here for most of my life, except for a brief period in the 80's when I lived in Ontario, where a lot of my family is from. I also spent 10 years living on the Sunshine Coast in a small town called Egmont. I now call sunny (!) Port Coquitlam home and have lived here for 3 years. I have spent most of my career in the accounting field and after nearly 20 years of working as an accountant in various industries including manufacturing, heavy equipment, and construction, I decided to start my own bookkeeping business. I truly love what I do and never tire of crunching numbers . When I have free time, I like to spend it outdoors taking in all that the west coast has to offer. I enjoy cooking and entertaining and am passionate about learning and self-improvement. I also love spending time with my 10 month old puppy, Shelby.I am very excited about joining Lynne and the team at the Golden Ears Winter Club. I look forward to learning all about the curling world and meeting the members of the Club.
