Arts Umbrella is a not-for-profit arts education centre for children and youth ages 2-19. Arts Umbrella is committed to delivering the highest quality visual and performing arts education to young people, regardless of their socio-economic circumstances. Since its inception by five young artistic parents in 1979 with only 45 students, Arts Umbrella has maintained a trail-blazing, forward-looking and community-focused spirit.
Its mandate is to re-define the meaning of Canadian culture through teaching, producing and performing new dance theatre with an emphasis on multi-disciplinary collaboration and cross-cultural exploration.
Our centre offers over 40 low-cost or free educational, recreational, social, and health-related wellness programs and services, as well as over 50 special events and outings each year. Over 400 members participate in activities every month and half use the centre at least once a week. We are supported by a large volunteer team with over 200 casual volunteers and over 100 regular volunteers.

Paraskevas Terezakis began his professional training in his native Greece, where his professional career started in theatre and dance with Experimental Ballet Athens. After moving to Canada in 1979, he studied at Toronto Dance Theatre, York University, and Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. In 1986, he started Kinesis Dance somatheatro and since then the company has performed world-wide over forty original dance works for solo, duet, and groups.
