To facilitate or undertake projects, such as an information and resource centre, programs or services as may be required to achieve the charitable purposes of the Society. The need for specialized centralized information & resources in this area for people with disabilities was first identified by the RCD in the late 1980's.

DAESSY is a creation of and the property of Daedalus Technologies, Inc., a company established in 1985 to manufacture and market specialized scientific equipment. In 1986 Daedalus Technologies, Inc. became aware of the augmentative communication field and began developing what has become the DAESSY Mounting System. The development of the components for the mounting system, subsequent establishment of manufacturing and marketing capabilities and expansion into other products intended for the same market eventually displaced the scientific side of the company.

The British Columbia Blind Sports and Recreation Association, BCBSRA, was organized in October 1975 in order to send BC athletes to the 1976 National Championships and Selection Trials for the Olympics for the Physically Disabled (now called the Paralympics) in Toronto.
