Kids Street Integrated Non-Profit Co-operative Nursery School (Port Elgin) Inc., commonly referred to as 'Kids Street', was incorporated in September 1989, and is fully owned and operated by the parents of the children attending the school. Kids Street provides preschool programs for children ages 18 months to 5 years. In accordance with the articles set out in the by-laws of the corporation (Section GB), the school's program and curriculum contents are developed, co-ordinated and implemented by the Supervisor/Teacher.
Located just outside the “downtown” core in a large Victorian house, Unity House Nursery School provides a home-like atmosphere, including home-cooked lunches. At Unity House we believe children learn through play therefore we strive to provide a stimulating play- filled day. Our philosophy is that each child should be valued for their own sake and we work to ensure that all of our children develop a positive self-image. Similarly, we encourage a love of life and learning, respect for others and the environment, all of which grows good citizens of the community and the world.
Unity House Nursery School has been operating since 1989. Retirement of original owner, Ann Vos, in 2014 resulted in long time teacher Pam Hearn-Erb taking on the role of owner/director as well as a move to a new location and expansion. Unity House is licensed for 26 children, from toddler to SK, and operates year round.
